Learning to Lead Ourselves

Learning to lead ourselves is a skill that develops over time – for many, over our entire  lifetime. It’s a skill we need if we are to step forward into the unknown, build our character, develop mental resilience, and better relate to those around us. Above all, it’s about learning how to bring our talents and abilities – whatever they may be –  to build the life we seek, contribute to society, and develop our sense of self-worth and belonging. But where do we start?

Feeling the Pressure

Our school years have always brought challenges and sometimes struggle as we learn and grow, both academically and as an individual. Today there are more pressures than ever to ‘fit-in’, to have an opinion, or to not offend. Often fuelled by social media, these pressures can have young people stumble, become insecure about themselves, and hinder their progress to be all they can be. For some, these conditions can become the catalyst for chronic mental health issues.

lifting up the next generation

Jumpseat Leadership is all about lifting others up and equipping them so that, when the time is right, they can take the lead. This is why the Jumpseat Leadership team has drawn on the techniques of Jumpseat Leadership to build three foundation break-out sessions designed to lift-up 16-24 year olds so they can better lead themselves. The first session is called Knowing Who I Am; the second is Being Curious; and the third Leading Me. A Teacher Support Pack is provided to equip school and college staff to continue conversations with students beyond the formal sessions.
